Thomas holds an Associate’s degree from Southern Union State Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master’s degree in secondary Education and a Master’s degree in Education Administration Murray State University. His teaching career spans across Paducah Middle School, Paducah Tilghman, and McCracken County High School.
Beyond the classroom, Thomas has had a remarkable athletic and coaching career. He played at Southern Union State Community College before playing for Murray State University in 2002.
Transitioning to coaching, he has coached middle school basketball & football. He’s also coached high school girls track, and girls softball. He has served as a head coach of Paducah Tilghman girls basketball team, as Paducah Tilghman’s boys basketball head coach, and assistant coach for McCracken County girls basketball the past six years.
Thomas says he chose to work in education because “as a young man, I had a lot of strikes against me. I was brought up in a poor household, in a single parent household, and as a minority male, I was absent of a father figure.” He credits his community college coach with impacting him in such a way that he wants to do the same for others.
“I chose education because I wanted to give back,” said Thomas. “My goal is to create an environment where teachers want to teach, and students want to learn. I believe in discipline, commitment, teamwork, and relentless effort—values that have guided my success in the classroom and on the court.”
Excited to join the Mayfield Middle School family, Thomas embraces the school's commitment to excellence. “I look forward to being a Cardinal and contributing to the great culture here. My motto has always been ‘Win the Day,’ and I believe that aligns perfectly with Mayfield’s mission of ‘Success: Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day.’”
